After meditation I got up and got stuff ready to go. I had my first superfood protein shake of the day.
Then it was time for book club call. I learned a wonderful thing today on the call and via this book The Power of Focus! Focus on what you are good at and practice that so you get a lot better instead of trying to get better at something that you are not good at and do not like! This was a totally new concept for me. It has always been my belief to focus on the things that I am not good at and practice those until I get better whether I like them or not! Totally backwards! Now if there is something that you love to do and you aren't good at it, then of course you can practice it so you get better. It is important to practice something long enough to determine if you will get better or not. So there is a balancing involved. The things that you are not good at and/or don't enjoy, delegate those to someone who enjoys that type of work! This is going to be a life changing lesson for me!
I did my workout after book club and then had my second superfood protein shake of the day with Recover in it. It was upper body day.
Then Ethan and I headed to Ottawa. Tonight is the Steve Vai VIP package and concert! We're super excited about that!
When we got to Joe's place, I had pork chop, potatoes, and green beans.
Then we headed to Algonquin College to enjoy the meet and greet experience as well as the concert! We got a bunch of swag including an autographed poster, a book with some pictures of him in it, a guitar pick, and a t-shirt. We got to sit and talk to him for about an hour where we got to ask questions. There were only about a dozen of us there. It was pretty cool. I instantly liked him - as he talked he shared a lot of the same beliefs that I have. As he was sharing a story, he even asked permission to swear in front of Ethan. His care of people came through.
Then we all a picture taken with him and he even offered to do a family shot with us. You can see it below.
After the talk he signed something for everyone. We got him to sign our book that we got as we hadn't brought anything else. Some people brought guitars for him to sign. Neat!
Then we all got to stay for a sound check. That's the last picture of the bunch.
We stayed until intermission and then we left as Ethan was pretty tired. It was a great concert and I especially enjoyed it as we got to stand right up front and really experience Steve's love and passion for playing guitar.
Ethan has been learning to play guitar and so over the last year or so we have been taking him to experience different guitar players. He has seen Jose Filiciano, Supertramp cover band, and AC DC. Later this month we will see a cover band playing an album from The Band. In guitar lessons he has learned songs such as Down on the Corner from Creedence Clearwater Revival, Crazy bout a Mercury, Chatahoochie, and others. I love that he is experiencing a variety of music so he can choose what he loves best. So far he loves it all, but really likes his rock. He's been learning some GNR and Zeppelin, etc on his own.
A great end to a Wonderful Wednesday!
